Gunfleet Boating Club News Letter-

November 2003

Greetings chaps and chapesses. It’s a bit cold now don’t you think. And dark. But never fear. A warm welcome awaits everybody at the club. And also, it’s a bit lighter there now after the decorating efforts of Fisher, Smith, Mallett and Buer (renowned international interior decorators Ltd, Clacton Branch) seriously, thanks chaps for your efforts.

A big thanks to Russell Fisher for his efforts in organising the Golf day at Lexden Wood. The club raised approximately £960 and this will go towards renovation of the Gents Showers. Also a big thank you to Phillip Grice and Dean Neville for allowing the free use of the course. I for one I had a good day but couldn’t seem to get the little white bugger in the hole. Coddy managed to get a few in the river though.

The fishing competitions, being organised by Steve Turner, are going well. Congratulations to Chris Wright for catching his first Bass in 97years of fishing….You can buy them in the High Street Chris. The dates for the remainder of these competitions are on the notice board and the Web Site. However, if you don’t have access to either of these, please contact me and I will forward these to you again.

It has been agreed that, as of 1st January 2004 a charge for any boat/ trailer combination left in the compound will incur a charge of £20 for the period up to membership renewal. This charge will then be reviewed.

If you are aware of any boat/ trailer combination left in the compound by any non-members, please advise them that they have to be removed ASAP. This will be followed up by an advertisement in the local paper.

Social events planned for the next couple of months are as follows.

Saturday 8th November is the Bonfire Party with prizes for the best guy (£20 Voucher for the winner with a £5 Voucher for the runner up). Entry will be £10 per family and is open to your friends and family. As ever, a lot of money will be spent on the fireworks and your support of this event is needed. The BBQ will be fired up also.

On Saturday 22nd November 03 The R.N.L.I. will be holding their annual Horse Race night at Highfields and tickets are for sale behind the bar   (about £6 each if my memory serves me well).

Saturday 29th November 03 will be the date of the adults Christmas party and the children will be welcome as always. This year, due to the fact that we were unable to find a suitable caterer, it was agreed that a Chinese night would be planned. This will be a ticket only event (Somewhere between £5 and £10 per adult with the children eating free).

The Children’s Christmas party will be on 6th December between 4 and 7pm. An entertainer has been booked and the big fat bloke in the red suit with a white beard will be in attendance. (Please limit you children’s presents to £5)

New Years eve (Normal date of 31st January). The bar will be open and as usual, all are welcome. A list will be placed on the board so everybody knows what buffet food everybody else is bring so we don’t end up with 20,000 sausage rolls and only 1 cocktail sausage.

In closing, thanks must also be extended to Kath for the new flag; Trevor and Coddy for tidying up the compound and to me for….well...and to me.

Cheers

Jon (It’s a bit cold if you fall in now, even for me now) Moss
