Gunfleet Boating Club Newsletter-

August 2003

(The big one)

Greetings; boating chaps and chapesses. Well summer is well and truly here (BIGGER BAR BILLS AND IT SEEMS AS IF YOU ARE BUYING SHARES IN BP/ SHELL WHEN YOUR FILL UP AT LEAST TWICE OVER THE WEEK END).

The trip to the sands organised by the sailing club went well (we found the sands and all returned safely). Thanks to the following individuals whose efforts made the event such a success: -

Captain Trevor Smith for taking what seemed like half of Essex out to the sands on The H.M.S “ALL KIDS WELCOME”.

Julie , Colin and Steve B for the culinary delights that danced on your tongue and played sweet music with your taste buds (watch out Russell ).

Kath for serving the amber nectar at the bar.

Arthur for washing up (pink Marigolds no less. Now who would have thought that?)…………And all the members who attended. If I have left anybody out sorry, but thank you.

Oh, and thank you god, for not letting me fall off, well, not where anyone could see me.

Our clubs trip to the Gunfleet Sands is planned for 30th August (on the sands for 8pm ). A BBQ is planned for mid afternoon prior to departure

The Scampi and Quiz went well and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Thanks to Steve B , Keith , Julie , Mine host himself ( Russell ) and everybody else whose efforts made this event possible.

The AGM for the club will take place at the clubhouse on 7th September 2003 at 10:00hrs and all are invited. Formal notification of this will be sent out shortly. Please attend to enable you to have a say in the running of your club.

The Membership status at present stands at: -

14 Free for Life

53 Full Members (with 18 Jet Skis, 15 Ski boats and 14 fishing boats).

17 Social Members

Due to the increased sports activities at the club, the following safety points are to be observed by all at all times: -

    1.  No children are to be allowed on to the launching ramp unless they are using the ramp to board or disembark a craft.

    2.  Any adults using the launch ramp are to remain “up ramp” of the launch vehicle until the craft to be launched has entered the water.

3.  No Glass containers are to be allowed down on the promenade.

4.  No craft in the launch funnel is to exceed 8 knots within 100meters (about the 4th buoy out) of the low water mark. The speed restriction of 8 knots within 200 meters of the low water mark outside the launch funnel still remains.

It is not the clubs intention to take away any of the enjoyment of what we all do, but I am sure you will agree that the above points are the best and only way forward to safe guard our children, ourselves and fellow members safety and well being.

Still on a safety vein, a first aid at sea course has been offered to the club, which will run over 2 consecutive Sundays at a cost of £10. Would any interested parties please contact Julie Well for more info and booking details?

Members are to be reminded that it is their responsibility to tidy up after themselves.
